How to upload a match video from your phone

Upload a match from your camera roll with the GGAB app, see what happens if you leave mid-upload, and send it for tracking from your phone.

Updated

This page shows how to upload a match straight from your phone's camera roll with the GGAB app, then send it for tracking without touching a computer. If you don't have the app yet, see Get the App.

Upload a video from your camera rollLink to this section

  1. Tap the menu button at the top left and choose Match Tracker.
  2. Tap Upload a match.
  3. The first time, allow GGAB to access your photo library.
  4. Pick the match video. You can pick one video at a time.
  5. An upload card appears at the top of the list, with the file name, a progress bar and the percent done.
  6. When it finishes, the card goes away and the video shows in your list as Processing.
  7. When processing is done, the row shows Not tracked. The video is ready to play, rotate or send for tracking.

A few things you might see when you pick:

  • This is a big file. Videos of 4 GB or more take a long time to send. Tap Upload anyway to go ahead, and keep the app open on Wi-Fi.
  • You've already uploaded this video. The same file is already in your library, so there's no need to send it again.
  • Couldn't open that video. If the message says the video is stored in iCloud, open it in Photos so it downloads to the phone, then pick it again. Otherwise, try again or pick a different video.

Already have the match on YouTube, Google Drive or Dropbox? Tap Paste a link instead. See How to import a match from a link.

If you leave the app or lose connectionLink to this section

Your upload isn't lost if something interrupts it. GGAB remembers every upload until it's finished.

  • While GGAB is open, the upload runs and your screen stays awake.
  • If you switch apps, lock your phone or lose signal, the upload may stop. When you come back to GGAB or your connection returns, it carries on from where it stopped, so you don't start again.
  • If the connection drops, the card shows Paused and resumes on its own when you're back online. Tap Resume now to try straight away.
  • If the app closes or your phone restarts, the upload picks up again the next time you open GGAB, and the card shows Resumed.

Background uploading is limited. On an iPhone connected to Wi-Fi, a video up to 1.5 GB is sent as one background transfer, and its card says keeps uploading even if you lock your phone. If that transfer gets cut off, the video is sent again from the start. Every other upload, including all uploads on Android, may stop when you leave the app and carries on when you come back. Its card says safe to leave the app, resumes if interrupted. For a long upload, keep GGAB open on Wi-Fi.

To stop an upload, tap the × on its card, then Delete upload. This removes the video from your library.

Rotate a sideways videoLink to this section

If the video came out in portrait or upside down, rotate it once it's ready. You don't need to upload it again.

  1. In Match Tracker, tap the three dots on the video (More options).
  2. Choose Rotate video.
  3. Tap Left or Right until the preview is upright.
  4. Tap Apply rotation.

The video reprocesses for a few minutes and comes back the right way up. Rotate before you send the match for tracking, because rotating a tracked video means the player boxes no longer line up. Recording your matches has the full details, including how to do it on the web.

Send it for tracking from your phoneLink to this section

Sending a match for tracking needs the Pro plan.

  1. In Match Tracker, tap the three dots on the video (More options) and choose Track.
  2. Fill in the details: Match title, Match date, Match start time, Game type, and each player's name and handedness. Tap This is me on your own player, and choose the side under Which side is nearer the camera?. Then tap Next: mark the players.
  3. Scrub to a frame where everyone is visible. Tap each player's chip and drag a box around that player. When every player has a box, tap Next: match segments.
  4. Segments are optional. Leave them empty to track the whole video. To skip breaks, tap Add segment, scrub to each moment and tap Set to for the Start and the End, then choose Near serves first or Far serves first.
  5. Tap Submit for tracking. The app confirms with Submitted for tracking, and tells you how many tokens are held until the match is delivered.

The video's row then reads In queue · we'll notify you. Changed your mind? Tap the three dots and choose Cancel submission. This takes the match out of the queue and refunds the held tokens.

You don't have to wait for the upload to finish. While the video is still uploading, tap Add details on its upload card, or choose Add details from the three dots. Fill in the match details and tap Save details. Come back once the video is ready to mark the players and submit.

Match start time is when the recording began. Setting it lines your watch's heart rate up with the rallies.

For how tokens are counted, and how segments lower the cost, see Automatic Tracking and Tokens.

If something goes wrongLink to this section

  • The upload card says Failed. Read the reason under the file name and tap Retry. If it says the video is no longer available on your device, the file was removed before the upload finished. Pick it again.
  • Permission needed. You turned down photo access. Allow GGAB to access your photos in your phone's settings, then tap Upload a match again.
  • The row says Processing failed. The reason shows under the video's name. The app has no retry for this. Open Videos on the web, open the three-dot menu on the video and choose Retry processing.
  • Not enough tokens or Subscription inactive when you submit. Top up your tokens or renew your membership, then submit again.
  • The upload seems stuck. Check the card. If it says Paused, it's waiting for a connection. If it's a big file, it can take hours. See Troubleshooting for more.
